A simple exercise

You wouldn't take notice of the babbling of a mad person sitting next to you on the bus and base your life around it. You wouldn't listen to the voice of a character in a radio drama for direction in life. So why listen to the narrative in your head? Solution: (1) Detach from and let go of the narrative. Imagine you're cutting the string of a balloon and then watching it disappear into the ether and out of sight. (2) Ask God, regarding the situation you find yourself in presently, 'How should I view this? What do You want me to do or say next?' (3) Repeat.

Fear and God-reliance

The anatomy of fear: An event will occur. The event will cause pain. The pain is unacceptable. How God-reliance works in relation to fear: A God-reliant person tends to navigate life more successfully than a self-reliant person: fewer pain-causing events. A God-reliant person values eternal things (which cannot be harmed by extraneous factors, like integrity) rather than temporal things (which can, like lawnmowers or reputation): same events, less pain. A God-reliant person is accepting of what cannot be changed: same pain, but no resistance, so no pain about the pain.
