You wouldn't take notice of the babbling of a mad person sitting next to you on the bus and base your life around it. You wouldn't listen to the voice of a character in a radio drama for direction in life. So why listen to the narrative in your head?
Solution:
(1) Detach from and let go of the narrative. Imagine you're cutting the string of a balloon and then watching it disappear into the ether and out of sight.
(2) Ask God, regarding the situation you find yourself in presently, 'How should I view this? What do You want me to do or say next?'
(3) Repeat.
